MUSIC BY

This is Our Home

This is Our Home: Pacific artists for climate justice is a project of the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty initiative.

Stories, oral traditions, ARTS, CULTURE and music have been the tools with which Pacific peoples have passed down their knowledge, histories and heritage for over four millennia, representing a central part of the many cultures that populate the vast Pacific Ocean. OUR MUSIC AND ARTS HAVE been the archive of our ancestors. It is how we have learned about the world around us, the histories of our peoples, the struggles we have faced, where the collective knowledge of our peoples has lived and passed on. It is where the collective memory of our peoples resides.

THIS IS OUR HOME combines these methods and rich heritage with modern storytelling mediums to take us on a personal and in-depth journey into the daily realities of climate change as experienced by front line Pacific peoples. This Is Our Home is the Fossil Fuel Treaty Initiative’s first major storytelling project and a key component of its Pacific campaign, where the momentum for the global push for several key climate achievements began.

This is our home brings the battle of Pacific communities confronting the daily onslaught of the climate crisis to the popular culture, exploring how PACIFIC values, faith and cultures have fostered innovation and resilience - creating the world’s foremost climate warriors taking on the Fossil Fuel Industry.

We explore these themes through the arts and cultures of the Pacific which we honour and draw from in this project.

DJ Sweet V

This Miami-born, Brooklyn-based vinyl connoisseur is a staple within New York's reggae community. For the last 15 years she's taken over the airwaves as a guest at every radio show in the area, including East Village Radio (Jamaica Rock), BBOX Radio (Shanty Town/Watch This Sound), WNYU (Tunnel One/Hip-Hop And Her Family). It also can't go without mentioning her numerous turns as guest selector all over Brooklyn and Manhattan: Coney Island Reggae On The Boardwalk (WKCR), Al Paragus HQ, Downtown Top Ranking with Deadly Dragon Sound, Mobile Mondays at Bowery Electric, Trench Town Tuesdays, Soul in The Horn, and Good Ting. She has had the pleasure to take her set to Trinidad and Tobago, playing at the Akea Beka and Tippy I Grade’s show and as well as the Jah 9’s show at the Belmont Community Center. Aside from that, she held it down solo on Tuesday Nights at Spur Tree, one of the best Jamaican restaurants in Manhattan, Sunday nights with King Lion Sound and The Den All-Stars at Pure Vibes Sundaze in East Flatbush, the center of Brooklyn's Caribbean enclave. New York City is constantly abounding with DJ's, but not all of them play from the heart. When Sweet V is on the set, you know that love and passion bleeds through the sound!
