Global Cities Leading the World’s Shift from Reliance on Fossil Fuels

The urgent need to phase out fossil fuels, the single largest driver of the climate emergency, was finally recognised at a United Nations conference for the first time in our planet’s history at the Stockholm+50 Summit

But, as the UN Secretary General said in Stockholm: “science and citizens are demanding ambitious and transformative climate action, but many governments are dragging their feet. The window to prevent the worst impacts of the climate crisis is closing fast… The only true path to energy security, stable power prices, prosperity and a livable planet lies in abandoning polluting fossil fuels, and accelerating the renewables-based energy transition”.

Where national governments are lagging, cities and their leaders are stepping up to take climate action and move away from fossil fuels. This is vital because cities are home to the majority of humanity and the biggest energy consumers globally.

Hear from city leaders from around the world who are calling for the end of the fossil fuel era and a just energy transition.
