Civil Society Equity Review

Wednesday, May 4, 2022
1.00pm-2.30pm UTC/GMT

The webinar will focus not only on the findings and recommendations of our most recent report report, “A Fair Shares Phase Out: A Civil Society Equity Review of an Equitable Global Phase out of Fossil Fuels,” but we will also explore fossil fuels’ relation to today’s wars, inflation, pandemic and climate change, which all further underscore the urgent need for a rapid and equitable phase out.

During the webinar, we will discuss:

  • Fossil fuels are fundamental to today’s wars, inflation, pandemic and climate crises; the Civil Society Equity Review sees a fair shares phase out as part of any plausible response for peaceful reduction of production-consumption;

  • While the wealthiest countries remain far-below contributing their fair shares of the global effort, less-wealthy countries have mitigation pledges reaching about — or above — their full fair shares;

  • A diversity of challenges and opportunities in addressing fossil fuel production at the national as well as international level, highlighting real-world problems playing out in thirteen countries profiled;

  • Addressing “supply-side equity” issues relating to the phaseout of fossil fuel extraction, as well as a number of possible solutions including both national and international cooperation.
