As the world gears up to mark World Environment Day amid escalating climate impacts globally, the need to address the root cause of the climate crisis - coal, oil and gas, is increasingly urgent. Across the globe, momentum is building around the proposal for a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty - a bold new plan calling for international cooperation to facilitate an equitable and financed global transition away from fossil fuels to renewable energy. Here in Kenya, a country known for its climate leadership and ambitious renewable energy plans, stakeholders are uniting to back this global effort and urging the government to join the call for a Treaty, which would align with and support the country’s goal of achieving 100% renewable energy.

In line with this, The Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative in conjunction with our partners cordially invites you to a press conference to be held at Villa Rosa Kempinski Hotel in Nairobi, ahead of World Environment Day. The event will spotlight distinguished speakers from faith, civil society, youth, indigenous communities, labour and policy circles, all championing the call for a Fossil Fuel Treaty to facilitate a safe, sustainable renewable-powered future, to address the climate crisis, boost energy access and drive economic growth and diversification.

Speakers

  • Fredrick Njehu - Pan African Political Strategist, Greenpeace Africa

  • Hakeem Khalid - Environment And Climate Change Lead, SUPKEM

  • Muthoni Kariuki - President, Green Age Warriors and Miss Tourism Africa 2022

  • Prince Papa - Africa Campaigner, Fossil Fuel Non-proliferation Treaty Initiative
