Why do we need a treaty?Health, safety and security. It’s what the world needs and it's possible to get there — but it requires ending the era of coal, oil and gas.
Join a bloc of Pacific nations in their call for a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty to complement the Paris Agreement by accelerating an equitable shift away from fossil fuels to affordable, abundant renewable energy for all.
It’s time to leave behind the pollution, economic, climate and security risks caused by coal, oil, and gas. There is enough affordable, renewable energy capacity in every region of the world to power people’s lives and communities.
Fossil fuel corporations have been holding back progress and keep growing the problem by expanding production. Time is up. Governments, organisations and individuals around the globe are demanding action by endorsing the call for a Fossil Fuel Treaty.

For decades, our governments have been setting climate targets for emissions and trying to reduce the demand for fossil fuels. It’s not working. Oil, gas and coal companies have plans to expand production at levels that would result in 110 percent more emissions than what is needed to avoid catastrophic climate change.
International cooperation is needed to spur a global, fair shift away from oil, gas and coal. Yet the Paris Agreement doesn’t even mention fossil fuels which is the primary cause of climate change.
International treaties have been used to address global threats many times in the past.
